Im back - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog

Im back - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Today is my first work day after a long and excellent holiday, and MAN its good to be back. Here are a few highlights from our holiday: * Travelling through Germany, Holland and Denmark without once having to show our passports. * Goliath and Colossos. * Amsterdam by bicycle . * Helping an old man push his ice-cream-cart-scooter up a hill that it couldnt climb and getting two ice creams for it. * The small twisty roads in the Harz region of Germany * Getting in a mile-long traffic jam on a German highway and just riding our motorcycles throught the gaps between stalled cars. * Portuguese tapas in Amsterdam. By the way, I kicked of my first working day with giving a speech to 12 employees from Novo about happiness at work, and it went extremely well! In short, Im back and Im flying! How to stand out on your resume -

How to stand out on your resume - Almost every resume I see reads like a laundry list of stuff the person has done at work. The problem is that everyone applying for the job you seek probably has a similar list of stuff. What makes you stand out? Why are you special why do YOU deserve to win an interview and the job? It certainly isnt because you were Responsible for something or that you were Recruited to do something. A prospective employer wants to know what youve accomplished. What impact have you had on past employers? What obstacles did you overcome to achieve a positive result? The most important thing you can do is target your resume specifically for the job. Use the job description as your guide and provide proof in your application materials that you have the skills necessary to accomplish the positions goals. Quintessential Careers compiled a comprehensive list of accomplishments employers seek. Describe how you: Make money Save money Save time Make work easier Solve a specific problem Help the company become more competitive Build relationships Expand the business Attract new customers Retain existing customers I suggest you answer the following questions: What problems did you solve? How did you improve your organization? What innovative ideas did you introduce (and what were the positive results)? How did you make a difference? When you re-focus your resume spotlight to shine on what you have to offer instead of just listing what youve done, you will be much more marketable. photo by Samurai John

How to Use the Star Statement For Resume Writing

How to Use the Star Statement For Resume WritingThe first star statement for resume writing is one of the most important ones. While it may seem to be a relatively minor point, consider this for a moment. When a company looks at a resume, they are looking for candidates who have the requisite skills and experience to fill out the top positions. Many people who have recently moved into a position in a company know exactly what I'm talking about. Because the competition has gotten so high, many companies are willing to overlook experience points if you have some great work experience on your resume. To be a good candidate for these positions, you need to impress your prospective employer. But how do you get an employer to notice you? You can do this by putting together a statement that shows exactly what you are good at and how you can excel in these positions. One good example is the sales person. These are the people who are tasked with selling the products that are being sold. These pe ople are responsible for making the sales people who are willing to spend their money go through the process of buying the product. If you have ever been in a situation where you went up to a customer and convinced them to buy your product, you probably know what this means. When creating a statement for this position, you want to make sure that you target audience. You also want to show them that you have had the opportunity to see your skills in action. But don't just pick a personal statement and throw it in there. Have an outline written out ahead of time to follow so that you can make sure that the information you put in the statement is properly presented. It is easy to make mistakes when you have a solid outline. But if you plan things right from the beginning, you will eliminate most of the problems. That is what the star statement for resume writing is all about.Statements for resume writing are all about the human element of it. They are not all about facts and figures. The important thing to remember is that you need to be able to show the employer why you are the best candidate for the job, and how you are going to provide them with the skills that they need.

Toys R Us Hiring 10,000 Workers for Holiday Jobs

Toys R Us Hiring 10,000 Workers for Holiday Jobs Despite filing for bankruptcy protection earlier this week, Toys ‘R’ Us plans to hire more than 10,000 part-time employees for the upcoming holiday season. The toy store chain will hire thousands of employees in some of the country’s biggest cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago and Boston, to help amid the busiest time of the year, the company said Thursday. Another 900 seasonal employees will be hired to work from home for the company’s customer service partner, Acticall Sitel Group. Toys ‘R’ Us is planning on matching its previous hiring sprees, which in the past have added 40,000 seasonal employees. That means the company is planning on offering thousands more positions in addition to the 10,000 jobs for those in bigger cities, a spokesperson for Toys ‘R’ Us told MONEY. While holiday part-time employment opportunities do not guarantee full-time positions down the line, Toys “R” Us said in the past it has hired thousands of its seasonal employees for permanent positions. The in-store job availabilities include cashiers, sales associates, stock associates, order fulfillment associates and toy demonstrators â€" a new position with duties like unboxing and playing with toys, as well as allowing kids to test them out. The new employment opportunities come after the world’s largest toy store chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Monday evening as it struggles with billions of dollars in debt amid a changing retail landscape. By filing for bankruptcy protection, the private company hopes to reorganize its operations and create a more sustainable financial structure as it faces hefty competition from growing, online-savvy stores like Amazon and Walmart. The company said its 1,600 Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us stores will continue “to operate as usual,” with no major announcement of closures yet. Private equity firms Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Bain Capital, as well as real estate firm Vornado Realty, bought the company in 2005 for around $6 billion. The retail chain owes $400 million in interest payments in 2018, and another $1.7 billion in 2019, according to CNBC. The company has received more than $3 billion from existing lenders and a JPMorgan-led bank syndicate to “immediately improve” the company’s operations and finanical struggles â€" a key measure to help Toys ‘R’ Us survive the hectic holiday season. Toys ‘R’ Us voluntarily filed for bankruptcy protection at a federal court in Richmond, Va., and its Canadian subsidiaries will seek similar protection through that country’s court system. “We are confident that these are the right steps to ensure that the iconic Toys’R’Us and Babies’R’Us brands live on for many generations,” Dave Brandon, the company’s chairman and CEO, said in a statement on Monday.

Here Are The 10 Reasons You Cant Find a Job And What To Do About It

Here Are The 10 Reasons You Cant Find a Job And What To Do About ItYou know your worth. The problem is, the job market doesnt seem to be getting it. If you find yourself increasingly frustrated with the fact that you cant finda job, then it might be time to ask yourself a few tough questions and then change tacks to make koranvers youre presenting yourself in the best possible light for the world to see how wonderful and hirable you really are. googletag.cmd.push(function() googletag.display(div-gpt-ad-1467144145037-0) ) Here are 10 very common mistakes you might be making, that might be keeping you from getting hired.1. Perceived IndifferenceFor some reason, your behavior projects as though you dont really want the job. Perhaps you got a voicemail from a recruiter or hiring manager, but you didnt return it promptly enoughassuming they would call you back if they were really interestedand then the opportunity passed.Make it a point to respond to all possible job correspondence as s wiftly and eagerly as possible, without looking desperate.2. CarelessnessThat spelling mistake in your resume should have taken you two minutes to catch if you had done a careful proofread. Make sure your materials are cleanly presented, free of typos and grammatical errors, and show that you put at least the minimum of effort into your application. If you dont have the careful eye required, have someone else proofread your materials and profiles for you.3. You Look FlightyYou might have a good reason for hopping around from job to job. Say you were a full-time student until recently and were working odd jobs to keep yourself fed and clothed and housed. Unless you have a good narrative to explain your spotty history, leave off any jobs lasting fewer than three months. And then use the About you section or question to explain your situation. The key thing is to demonstrate that you are bedrngnis a flight risk.4. Poor PresentationIf you showed up scruffy and unshaven, with rumpled clot hes, orworseyou didnt shower, then that could explain why youre not converting interviews into offers. Take out your piercing, wear long sleeves over your tattoos, and comb your hair. Act professional and people will assume you can be treated (and hired) as such.5. Youre OverqualifiedIf you have a lot of fancy education, skills, and experience on your resume and youre applying for jobs well below your pay grade, that might explain the lack of calls. Remember that entry-level jobs are meant for entry-level employees. Dont bother to apply for them if youve moved beyond that stage in your careerno matter how much you want to get a job.6. SmokingSeriously, smoking is so 1992. If you come into an interview reeking of cigarettes, your potential employer is going to be turned off. Theyll also think that customers could potentially be turned off as well. Quit now. Your health and your career will thank you for it.7. Bad AttitudeIt might not be your fault that youre depressed or frustrated. But it is your fault for showing it in an interview situation. Keep your anger about your job search frustration, or your lay-off, or your bad former boss to yourself. Be pleasant and positive and show yourself in your best light as a future coworker.8. You Didnt Pay AttentionThe job posting is your best friend. It asks for specific materials and describes, specifically, what the company is looking for. Failure to read this carefully, and determine whether you can deliver what is asked, is all on you.Do exactly what youre asked to do. Follow the directions to the letter and prove to your potential boss that you can carry out whatever task she gives youwithout having to be told twice.9. Poor CommunicationYou talk too much or too little. Your interviewer has to coax monosyllabic answers out of you. You stray off the topic of the question. You cant get your strong points across in words. Beef up your communication skills, and you should see a marked improvement.10. Youre Not PreparedYo u didnt do your homework. You have no idea what the company does. You havent thought through why you are the perfect fit for this particular job and what you can do for the company. You dont know enough about the industry. You dont have a list of good questions to ask your interviewer, or good answers to her questions of you. You ask for a salary that is either far too high or too low for the job youre applying for.Dont fall victim to this easiest trap of job seeking. Prepare, then prepare even more. You can never be too prepared.Keep in mind lots of factors that have nothing to do with you could be affecting your job search. But lots of factors that you can and should fix could be too Do a thorough self-search inventory to make sure youre not sabotaging yourself. Then keep going. It could always be bad luck. Just keep at it, examine yourself for a tune-up now and then, and eventually youll get a breakthrough.

Lunch Ideas For Kids

Lunch Ideas For Kids When I found out I would need to pack my daughters lunch for her new daycare, my first thought welches, Uhhhsay what now? She welches one. I dont even remember if she had teeth. OK, she had a few but definitely bedrngnis a mouthful. How was I going to pull together quick, healthy lunches that she would actually eat? I needed ideas. I needed inspiration. Fast.A little history. I hate packing lunches. There was a time, before our daughter was born, when my husband and I tried to be responsible and listen to our financial advisor. We swore off going out to eat for lunch and planned for me to pack our lunches for work instead. It. Was. Hell. I remember waking up in the morning and just instantly regretting the stupid, stupid decision to be responsible. I even started to resent my husbands need to eat lunch at all while I decided lunch wasnt really that important to me and would just go without. Here are a few things I need in the morning coffee, quiet time, breathing room, and a hot shower. Things I dont need having to follow a recipe or plan and put together thoughtful, nutritious, balanced lunches that my husband and I could enjoy on our lunch breaks. Needless to say, we fell off the bring-lunch-from-home wagon pretty quickly.Fast forward to the present. I had to pack my daughters lunch for daycare and I could not phone it in. Other people would be paying attention this time. Her school even had a separate printout dedicated to the art of packing my childs lunch. She needed a protein, a veggie and/or fruit, and a grain for every meal. I was a new mom with something to prove. And where do new moms go when they need inspiration? Pinterest. My Pinterest app used to be full of beautiful outfits I would never wear, complicated nail art I would never get and crazy expensive office merch I would never buy. Now, I have hauptplatines for entertaining a toddler during rainy days and clothes that hide tummies. But my most dedicated board is none other tha n easy lunch ideas for kids specifically, school lunch ideas for the magical invention that is the bento box. Now, because of Pinterest, a trusty purchase and very simple planning, I dont dread packing lunch. I actually aspire to make lunches for my daughter that I am jealous of and want to eat myself. Below are a few tips that will make packing your kids lunch an easy joy instead of a dreaded task.Step one. BUY A BENTO BOX (basically a super practical lunch box). I am a visual person. I also love organizing things into neat little compartments. Yes, this is not great when trying to deal with large emotional breakthroughs, or so says my therapist, but it is great when trying to plan a meal. There are tons of options online, especially on Amazon. Just search kids bento box and peruse the endless options. What you are looking for is a hard container with three to four individual compartments that will hold child-sized portions for a balanced meal. It helps to get one that comes with a soft cover with a handle for ease while traveling.Step two. BRAINSTORM. Make a general list of what you want to include in the lunch. I follow what my daughters daycare laid out a protein (whether a hard-boiled egg or chicken salad or even Greek yogurt or peanut butter), a fresh fruit / veggie, and a grain. Then, take a minute to jot down all the proteins, fresh fruit, veggies, and grains (yes, a toritlla counts) your child enjoys. This is also when starting a Pinterest board for kid lunch ideas comes into play. There are countless ideas and combinations that will inspire you. Cucumber and grapes and tomatoes brie, crackers and hummus or peanut butter and carrots and avocado andyogurt? Yes please It also helps to see the lunches laid out beforethey go into the lunchbox. Everything is so simple, yet beautiful and vibrant.Step three. RELAX. Remember, you do not have to throw together elaborate meals or a gourmet salad or sandwich on fancy bread every day to impress who? Your kid who eats floor pretzels? You just need to make sure they have a yummy, balanced meal that includes food they will actually eat. And that is the beauty of the bento box. It is not meant to hold crazy, complicated sandwiches or Instagram-worthy overnight oats. Its designed for whole foods that go well together in an easy school lunch.Meaning, wait for it, you dont actually have to make anything. You can even do simple prep work to make things even easier for you in the morning, like cut up chicken, fruits, veggies and cheese (or even a cheese stick) the night before. When I realized I didnt have to do any actual cooking to make healthy lunches, a whole new lunch world opened up for me. I actually enjoyed putting together my childs lunch in the mornings. And, yes, I was even a little jealous.Need some good lunch ideas for kids? Here are a few sample healthy lunches (some of which have no bread, for all you mamas who have gluten free kids) I often make these no recipe necessary to guaran tee my daughters lunchbox will come home empty1) Fresh mozzarella (cut into slices or bite-size pieces)BlueberriesPretzelsSqueezie with fruits and veggies2) Carving board turkeyCheese stickRaspberriesVeggie sticks (carrots and cucumber) with hummus3) Cut up chickenStrawberriesCarrotsCereal bar4) Squeezie with Greek yogurtPeanut butter crackersSlices of avocadoBlackberriesHappy pinning.
